Animal Licenses

Due to the current shelter-in-place animal license renewal will be extended for an additional 45 days from the due date. No late penalty fees will be accessed. For new animal license application and renewals we are only accepting them by mail at this time.

The City of San Leandro requires a license for any animal that lives within the City limits. You can obtain your dog license by completing the Animal License Application and submitting by mail or in person at the cashier's office located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, Suite 215. The cashier's office is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday  from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m; open Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and closed on Friday. The animal licensing period coincides with the rabies vaccination period.

The following fees apply for a animal license:

  • 1 year rabies certificate $20
  • 1 year rabies spayed/neutered $10
  • 3 year rabies certificate $40
  • 3 year rabies spayed/neutered $20

Animal owners must present proof of rabies vaccination upon purchasing an animal license. The fee for the animal license shall be reduced by 50% for animals who are spayed/neutered. Please present a copy of your sterilization certificate (it may be noted on your rabies certificate) at the time you purchase your animal license to receive the discount.
